Children’s Ballroom and Latin class (Boreham, Capel St Marys)
Jeannette runs this long-established class with the focus on teaching the pupils all of the rhythms. With pupils ranging from the ages of 5 upwards. The class is great for those starting out or who have been dancing for a while. Jeannette breaks the dances down and teaches the steps to the pupils whilst also teaching them to understand the timing and rhythm of the different music styles. She also develops the technical side of the dancing in order to improve the look of the dance. All of the pupils work with others to improve their techniques and a number of them are working towards their next exam grade. Although Jeannette keeps this class focussed on the work she also keeps it fun, with a range of activities and techniques.
Then pupils are taught the Jive as all children (and adults come to think of it) love this fast and fun rhythm. The steps are also up to Bronze level. Waltz is the first Ballroom dance to be taught and we begin with the first three steps, building up slowly to include turns, whisks, chasses and spins into the routine. The Quickstep is next and we start the same way as the Waltz, slowly building up the steps to get the feel of the rhythm. Jeannette will focus on these four rhythms until the class have mastered them and then they will progress to learning the other rhythms. The class will also include party dances, Salsa and Mambo which will be taught towards the end of the lesson. Most importantly though is that the pupils go away feeling they have achieved something and with a smile on their face. The class is assisited by April, an ex-competitor in Ballroom and Latin.
Young adult and adults Urban Dance (Hatfield Peverel)
This is a lively class with the focus on fun and exercise. If you like the popular music videos then you’ll love this class, all of the dances are choreographed by our DFR teacher, April.
The class starts with a warm-up and stretch which is done to up-to date Street music. Next comes the main dance. A different dance is taught each week so if you miss a class, don’t worry, it is always something new. The dance is broken down and taught to you slowly, progressing to dancing through the whole song. Don’t worry if you can’t get the hang of a dance one week, the next week you might find it easy.
Children’s Beginners Disco class (Boreham)
This is a fun class for children aged 6 years upwards (we will take younger children if we think that they will benefit from the class). The pupils are taught a number of dances to popular music. The tempo’s vary depending on the dance and they will be taught Slow, Street and Disco style dances. The pupils can attend the class for fun or focus that little bit more in order to take part in the examination sessions we run. Pupils are also being trained for competition work. However, if they do not want to do competitions or exams – they just want to learn to dance – then they are still more than welcome to come along and have a go. This class is taught by April.
Children’s Intermediate Disco class (Boreham)
This is a fun class for children aged 9 years upwards with some dancing experience. This class is similar to the beginners class but with slightly more advanced routines. This class is taught by April.
Young adult and Adult Disco class (Boreham)
This class is very similar to the Children’s Disco class in the fact that the main focus of it is enjoyment. We teach a range of styles of dance (Disco, Street and Slow work) to popular music with the routines varying in difficulty. Some are short and aimed at the beginner whilst others are more technically difficult. However, everyone is encouraged to join in all of the dances and learn them as they are broken down step-by-step. You can work towards Disco exams in this class and we are also starting work on developing the pupils so that they are ready to take part in competition. We have pupils who are a range of ages from 13 years to adult so all are welcome. This class is taught by April.
Adults Ballroom and Latin classes (Capel St Marys, Hatfield Peverel, Milton)
The class is designed to get people to dance socially and gain confidence.
Adult beginners Latin and Ballroom class (Capel St Marys and Hatfield Peverel)
You will be taught simple moves to all of the rhythms. These will then be developed from the simple steps into routines. The classes tend to start with the flowing four dances (2 Ballroom and 2 Latin): Cha Cha Cha, Waltz, Jive and Quickstep. This class then develops into the Intermediate level classes were you develop your dance skills further.
Adult Intermediate Latin and Ballroom class (Capel St Marys and Hatfield Peverel)
Having learnt to move around the floor in Ballroom and how to move to the different Latin tempos you will be able to cope with the more difficult steps. You will also be taught the other Ballroom and Latin dances (Tango, Foxtrot, Rumba, Samba and Paso Doble). The routines will build up and the steps will get technically more difficult.
Remember: dancing is like building blocks, it needs to be built up a layer at a time.
The Adult Ballroom and Latin class at Hatfield Peverel is a beginner/intermediate class so all are welcome.
Also, in all of our classes, they can develop their skills further and focus on dance examinations and competition work. If you want to progress further then private lessons are the way to go!
Wedding dances
Jeannette has trained a number of couples so that they are ready for their first dance. Many couple like to learn the traditional Waltz but there have been a few who have decided to be more adventurous with fabulous results. If you want some more confidence to dance in front of your family and friends, or feel that you want to surprise everyone by doing something different, then both Jeannette and Jemma would be happy to choreograph a routine especially for you.
Private lessons
Although our range of classes have something for everyone, we feel that private, one-to-one lessons can benefit anyone. They can last for half an hour or more and you will be given the expert help that you want in any of our dance styles. Please contact Jeannette for further information.
